Project Highlight

WAKE COUNTY WEST REGIONAL LIBRARY
The Wake County West Regional Library is located at 4000 Louis Stephens Drive in Cary, North Carolina. The 30,000 SF branch library is one of the largest in the state, serving the high-growth western Wake County. Volumes of books and reading material are housed in a series of separate bearing masonry alcoves joined together by open, lofty public areas. The bearing CMU walls are clad with veneer brick in a cavity wall assembly. A ground-face CMU is used for all exposed block so that the structural wall also functions as an organic, inviting and maintainable interior finish. The ‘Piedmont’ mix used for the cmu includes aggregates of regional stone, honoring the longtime farmland into which it anchors, even as the region moves forward into a new era.
